Dream Quilt

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was in vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes; to make theirs dreams possible"—T. E. Lawrence

Jer’s Vision would like to challenge all persons from around the world to dream of what the world could be like without discrimination, poverty, pollution, war… We invite you to share your dream by making a piece of our Dream Quilt.

Panels are 6” by 6” (however since we sew them together, please use at a piece that is 7” by 7”, with your work framed in the centre). There is no need to hem your piece.

There are a variety of techniques you can use to create your panel, such as:

  • Appliqué: Sew fabric, letters and small mementos onto the background fabric. Please do not rely on glue as it does not last.
  • Beading: Sew beads into the panel to create elaborate or simple designs.
  • Collage: Assemble and attach diverse elements to make your statement. Please avoid materials that will tear or cut fabric (such as glass), and be sure to avoid very bulky objects.
  • Needle Point: Using thread or yarn this is a manually embroider your design onto cloth.
  • Paint: Brush on textile paint or color-fast dye, or use an indelible ink pen.
  • Photos: The best way to include photos or letters is to photocopy them onto iron-on transfers, iron them onto 100% cotton fabric and sew that fabric to the panel. You may also put the photo in clear plastic vinyl and sew it to the panel.
  • Recycle: Feel free to use an old T-shirt or used material for your base. This can help to personalize your panel.
  • Stencils: Trace your design onto the fabric with a pencil, lift the stencil, then use a brush to apply textile paint or indelible markers.
  • Tie-dye: Try dying your fabric with coloured dyes and inks.

Once completed mail your piece into us, and we will add it to the international Dream Quilt.
